Hey, Hey, Music Diggers
,
I'm blastin'out this one starting from Jobim Airport in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil back to dear ol' Hartford. It's been too long... again. In fact it's been over a year since I last limned a "Where's Warren" over the web waves. Much interesting things have happened since then; hold off your delete clicks and mind your filters. Yet rather than rattle off a raveled list of rovings, let me delve y'all in the now.
N.B. This "Where's Warren" started on June 28th and finished July 3rd; so don't mind the temporal discrepancies, the info is still mostly valid(snicker-snicker). WB
Byrdspeak's Louder Than Words: Truth Raised Twice was my first and last WB CD and many are wondering if I have anything to say anymore. Between those Kind-spirited, ingenuous kicks in the butt and my own...well..."angst", I've been in the Byrdspeak muse lab concocting fresh, new elixirs of sound and vibe. Thus, here's to hoping I can wail out samps of what's to come at my upcoming concert hosted by the Family Day Hartford Foundation; here's to hoping that Warren Byrd's Byrdspeak Ensemble on Sunday, August 14th, 2pm to 3:30pm (pending weather reports) at Keney Park Pond House on 323 Edgewood Street, Hartford, Ct featuring new works and old ones, originals and standards, Laroo, Porter, Holtkamp, Dave Davis, and Lucy Blanco will be an experience to savor; here's to standing on Faith that there will be nothing but fun and nothing to fear at Keney Park(Faith, I said, Faith). Cheers!!
BeatNik Makes Miles & Monk of Duo's Two of a Kind Release Presentation: I might as well tell you that the day before the aforementioned concert, Duo Laroo/Byrd will be having yet another night to remember. Andres Chaparro's BeatNik Entertainment has been throwing touchdowns for the Hartford Jazz scene and has graciously and deftly caught the hike from Saskia and Me on our first CD as a duo Two of a Kind. Saturday, August 13th, 8pm to 11pm at Royal Masala Restaurant on 391 Main Street (corner of Main St & Capitol Ave), Hartford, Ct. is the date of our CD presentation and tribute performance to Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk as a part of the BeatNik Entertainment Jazz Series. So far, our Duo Laroo/Byrd debut CD Two of a Kind has been getting thumbs-up feedback from various airplay sources such as WWUH, WFCR, and other friendly sources. We like to think of it as Miles and Monk jammin' on a street corner in the Village. The actual street release date is July 19th, thanks to City Hall Records. For more descriptions, and perhaps even excerpts(???) go to www.saskialaroo.nl or have a look at my music page.
Byrd Flies in Laroo's Fest Nest: While on Bb-Pie Laroo, I'm now jettin' back from the Rio Das Ostras Jazz & Blues Festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil--a sumptuous start to another season of globe zippin' with my favorite Dutch Jazz Diva's Saskia Laroo Band. We get back for some Afro-Semitic Experience hits on June 29th & the 30th, then we're back out just like homing pigeons on a mission. We land at 1) the South East Jazz Festival in Amsterdam, NL on July 2nd, then again up and out til we perch on 2) the BigBand Festival in Imatra, Finland on July 6th (opening for slap-bass daddy Larry Graham & his Graham Central Station), then mad flap to 3) The Sunfest in London, Ontario--Canada's 2nd largest world music festival. We "home" on July11th, will respectively appear with many Hartford jazzers such as Sinan Bakir, Paul Brown, King Porter, Dave Palla, Paul Fuller, Mike Palin & The Other Orchestra, Bossa Triba...also look out for a couple of radio interviews, namely one on The DrCal Hour Of Insight on Jul 18th, 4pm www.blogtalkradio.com/hourofinsight. Then we're off again from July 22nd straight on thru 'til August 10th for another long-coveted Croatian Coast Tour, The Gouvy Jazz Fest in Belgium, and sundries other wondrous Netherlands concerts. Peer at the near-comprehensive list later in this "Where's Warren" for more show specs and deetz.
Afro-Semitic Experienced Cookin' with Souls: I flitted 'bout some dates upcoming with ASE but what even hotter is that my friend and long-time partner-daddy Dr. David Chevan just doesn't know when to quit. His new concoction is "Jazz Souls On Fire". Will we blaze the echoes of Faith into blithe inferno when we transmute these selected sacred pieces by various jazz luminaries? To the tune of an SCSU grant, lots of pluck, and a possible Freedom Trail Workshopping tour it could be a firestorm...again! What we--Chev, Babafemi, Bartlett, Stacy, Baba, Lady Laroo, and myself--won't do to be Experienced...more about the upcoming ASE dates: Tomorrow and Thursday we'll be local-- Wednesday, June 29th, 7:30pm Forbes Library, 20 West Street in Northampton, Ma, Afro-Semitic Experience will do a concert (for more info please call (413) 587-1011) and on Thursday, June 30th, 6:30pm at East Hartford Town Green, 1021-1037 Main Street in East Hartford, Ct. as a part of the Sounds of Summer Series, rain location: East Hartford Community Cultural Center, 50 Chapman Place, East Hartford, CT, for more information please call 860-291-7166 or visit www.ehccc.com

Seasons Greetings, Music Diggers,
Just as I thought this year was turning out to be a bona-fide recession year, October, November, December seemed to take an upswing, tourings with Saskia Laroo to Oman, a three-week, multi-based India run, a quick mind-blower in Moscow, and now a festoon of perfs here in the Hollands (see the list below for details). We, the Afro-Semitic Experience staged two Mid-November premieres of “The Road That Heals the Splintered Soul” in Hartford, Connecticut and Kalamazoo, Michigan and are thus deeply indebted and grateful to the Chamber Music Society of America and the Doris Duke Foundation of Public Giving. Fortune had us time-team these premieres with the release of volume one of “The Road That Heals the Splintered Soul”, the studio version, rife with the id’s that make us the kind of troopers we are.
When I return to the USA on December 23rd, Ms. Laroo, now officially a resident alien, will be coming with me. She is available for gigs and whatever other musical work for which anyone would be interested in hiring her(i.e. sessions, jingles, the star-spangled banner, etc). See my contact info below or contact Saskia Laroo at info@saskialaroo.nl . You can also check out her years of excellence, her you-tube entrees, or anything Laroo at www.saskialaroo.nl
I’ve been slowly but surely pluggin’at a few other things…Warren Byrd/Saskia Laroo Mainstream jazz album? Lucy Blanco, singer friend and colleague, and Warren Byrd album? Trouppin’ in with June Watson’s Nu Soul project? The Porter Bros? Norman Gage/Kenny Reed? Elephant Havana Tonone’s? A Pastor Locke album?—Hogwash! It’s all heresay and wisp-thunder ‘til the deed is done. Yet, for sure, I’m pluggin’ away…
